Picking starter weight : GYM


Complete newb question here, but it’s okay because I am a licensed newbie!

How do I go about picking a starter weight to begin lifting.

I see a lot about 80% of your 1RM and stuff like that….but so far my 1RM has been 0 so….

Do I just start with the empty bar for my BP, Squat and anything else involving a barbell.

Then what about things involving a dumbell?

I feel like I am over complicating this?
