Day 1 of intentional work to improve my physical fitness. : GYM

I am a really unhealthy nerd. About a year ago, I started college and joined the club fencing team. I stunk. No endurance, strength or speed, I relied heavily upon strategic play, which got me a little bit, but I ended the year as one of the worst performing consistent members of a walk-on fencing team. I had developed a chronic back issue and was rather in a miserable physical state.

Over the summer, I moved more and ate less. I lost some weight, but I was still overweight and in pain. Today I was helping Freshmen move on campus for a different student org, and when I finish that I think. “I have 2.5 hours till I have to be anywhere, I will go to the rec center.” I found myself In the gym there and after being intimidated by the machines, I decided to ask the lady at the ask me desk for help.

Great decision, she was very kind and thought me what the machines did and focused on the ones to strengthen my back and help my problem. After this I spent 20 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minutes on the rowing machine and 5 doing back exercises with very small weights. I’m sore, but I somehow feel better than I did before this. It feels really good to start to take control over my health.

So I guess the purpose of this post is to vent a little excitement and to share this with any one thinking of starting to work out.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A SIGN THIS IS IT. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH YOU WILL THANK YOURSELF. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP OR TO LOOK WHIMPY. EVERYONE STARTED SOMEWHERE.
